Q: What is RFID? Answer:  Radio Frequency Identification.

Q: What is an Evolution Stowe RFID Card – Referred to as Evolution Stowe Card? Answer: The Evolution Stowe Card has a small RFID tag integrated into the card. When you pass through the lift line, this tag will register and open the lift access gate automatically.

Q: Where should I carry my Evolution Stowe Card? Answer: You must carry your Evolution Stowe Card in a separate pocket away from your cell phone, iPod, or any foil wrapped items such as gum wrappers, cold medicine etc.  The Evolution Stowe Card should be carried in the “strike zone” or on your person above your knees and below your shoulders.

Q: Why are we using RFID technology aka the Evolution Stowe Card? Answer: There are many guest benefits to RFID technology now and in the future.  First and foremost, direct to lift access.  For our lift ticket guests, once you have received an Evolution Stowe Card, you will be able to reload the card online at any time of day, without having to wait in any ticket lines.  For both ticketholders and passholders, the Evolution Stowe Card will last for years, this way you can simply purchase/reload your ticket or pass [in future years] and reuse your existing card.

Q: I’ve seen scanning at other resorts, is RFID better? Answer: RFID and bar code scanning achieve the same goals through different means. Bar codes require line of sight so that that each ticket or pass can be read by a hand scanner. RFID tags are read by an antenna on our RFID lift access gates. This means you can keep your card in your pocket and do not have to show your pass/card/ticket each time you load the lift.

Q: What information is stored on the Evolution Stowe Card? Answer: Each Evolution Stowe Card has a RFID tag  that physically contains only the randomly generated number associated with each unique guest profile. No personal or additional information is stored on individual RFID tags.

Q: Can the Evolution Stowe Card be used to access my personal information? Answer: No.  Each unique Evolution Stowe Card contains a multiple digit number randomly associated with a guest profile. This profile is encrypted and secure in our database.

Q: Are there any other environmental concerns associated with RFID? Answer: No. Using RFID technology allows us to eliminate paper waste with re-usable cards.

Q: Can I Punch A Hole In my Evolution Stowe Card? Answer: Evolution Stowe Cards already have a hole in the card.  Holes must never be punched in the Evolution Stowe Cards. The card has an antenna inside that surrounds the RFID tag. Any damage to the surrounding antenna will render the card inactive and the card must be replaced.  A replacement fee may be required.

Q: Can a magnet destroy an Evolution Stowe Card? Answer: No.

Q: Can the Evolution Stowe Card ‘survive’; in pieces of clothing? Answer: Yes. The Evolution Stowe Cards are designed to survive normal usage for years.  However, do not run an Evolution Stowe Card through the washing machine or dryer as this may damage and inactivate the card.  A replacement fee may be required.

Q: Will the Evolution Stowe Card and its RFID technology interfere with my other wireless technology? Answer: No.  The radio frequencies used by RFID are assigned by regulatory agencies around the world to help ensure that no interference occurs.

Q: Can the Evolution Stowe Card and its RFID technology be read from Satellites? Answer: No. The max reading distance is 30 inches.
