Vermont Association of Realtors (VAR) Provides Housing Assistance Grants

Application Deadline is November 30!

The Vermont Association of REALTORS® (VAR) has partnered with the National Association of REALTORS® REALTOR® Relief Foundation (RRF) to bring disaster housing assistance to those affected by Tropical Storm Irene. Watch the RRF Video here.

"REALTORS® have a long-standing tradition of helping those in need in their communities," said Bob Hill, VAR executive vice president. "Many Vermont families have been displaced by the destruction of Tropical Storm Irene, and in some cases families have completely lost everything."

Relief assistance will be available to qualified applicants and must be used toward mortgage payments for the applicant's primary residence or for rental costs for temporary shelter. Relief assistance is limited to a maximum of $1,500 and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

VAR is matching donations to RRF

VAR's Board of Directors recently voted to contribute $10,000 to the RRF Fund, which will be earmarked for Vermont. In addition, the board voted to match individual and local board of REALTOR® contributions to the fund up to $15,000.

Connie and Dean Mendell were among the first group of Vermont homeowners to receive a check from the REALTOR® Relief Foundation (RRF) for mortgage assistance following Tropical Storm Irene.

“It’s so touching to be involved in this,” said Brooks Barron of Brooks Barron Real Estate in Rochester. Brooks and his wife Susan, who is also a REALTOR®, presented the check to the Mendells. “We love these people, and to be part of this is a great pleasure for us.”

To date, VAR has provided more than $20,000 in relief funds to victims of Irene, and has processed an additional $30,000 in grant applications.
