... but, if you're still intent on finding just that right patch of late season snow, I can help. In fact, I can point you to more than a patch. Thanks to my friends at Urban Daddy in New York CIty, I can tell you exactly where and when to go skiing and riding, starting right now, in South America:
EARLY JUNE TO MID-OCTOBER La Hoya, Argentina
A training ground for the Argentine national team, La Hoya lies above the tree line and is known for its advanced, off-piste terrain—like shaded back-hill bowls covered in dry powder that won’t glaze over by midday.

JUNE 15 TO OCTOBER 15 Nevados de Chillán, Chile
Snowshoeing the Alaskan tundra: done it. Sandboarding the Sahara: check. Skiing a volcano: up next. At Nevados de Chillán, you can start at the lip of a volcanic crater and carve your way to one of nine natural hot spring pools. Think of it as ski-in, ski-out spa-ing.

MID-JUNE TO MID-OCTOBER El Colorado, Chile
Only an hour outside Santiago, El Colorado links with Valle Nevado and La Parva to make one massive resort—South America’s largest. It’s convenient, sure, but the real draw is the backcountry. You’ve never limited yourself to the groomed.

JUNE 20 TO OCTOBER 12 Corralco Ski Center, Chile
At 440 miles from Santiago, Corralco is perhaps Chile’s most isolated resort (read: no 97-minute lift waits). You’ll need a private car to get to base before tackling Volcán Lonquimay, but here’s the thing about inactive volcanoes: they’re warm underneath. Meaning, yes, there are sulfur-scented hot springs.

END OF JUNE TO MID-OCTOBER Catedral Alta Patagonia, Argentina
The oldest (and biggest) resort in Argentina is known for its raucous après-ski scene, is-this-a-movie-set views of Lake Nahuel Huapi and Club Catedral—an isolated lodge accessed only by gondola, with a heated pool and two restaurants. The powder’s all right, too.

If you haven't already discovered Urban Daddy's selection of email magazines, you don't know what you could be missing. But, I know you'll want to sign up for its "Ski and Board" edition.
I'm a big fan of Urban Daddy and its founders -- I've known them since there were only a handful of people sharing a small space on lower Broadway. Today the company occupies 3 floors, for about 100 employees, still in the same building! I was an early subscriber and advertiser, back in 2007 & 2008, when I was the real-estate marketing manager at Spruce Peak at Stowe Mountain Resort, and when the New York City edition was the only one. I'm still a subscriber and rely on the newsletters when I travel; and, when I don't, they're the perfect armchair travelling companion -- and the ads and perks are great. Check it out -- you might just find there's an edition for where you live!
